Is the Government about to force the BBC and the other broadcasters to recruit more black and Asian people on and off screen?

Last night Eddie Botsio: Launch Editor at London Live questioned Lenny Henry about his new proposal to DCMS – The Henry Papers.  Watch the full interview here.

Lenny Henry is advising DCMS on how the BBC and other broadcasters could and should improve its recruitment of  people from culturally diverse background both on and off screen.

There are is serious behind the scenes discussions that Henry’s proposal to ring fence funding especially for minority ethnic production companies and projects may be adopted by DCMS with HUGE implications for the BBC and other broadcasters. Lenny Henry  goes back to the DCMS this summer.

Some industry insiders love it. Others feel it doesn’t go far enough. Many BAME people in the industry are really pleased that Henry has taken up the cudgels for diversity while others are not sure why he is speaking out after all this time.
