Could  tax breaks resolve the lack of diversity in both Film and TV?

A week after a letter was delivered to 10 Downing Street by Sir Lenny Henry, actors Meera Syal and Adrian Lester, presenter Ade Adepitan, Producer Nadine Marsh-Edwards, exec producer Angela Ferreira and Marcus Ryder former BBC exec; The Film Diversity Action Group increased pressure for tax breaks at Parliament last week.

The launch of their report “It shouldn’t have the money if it doesn’t have the mix” is a set of proposals for linking film tax credits to diversity targets. Read the full report here.

Edinburgh pays tribute to VICTOR ADEBODUN (RIP)

The Edinburgh TV festival New Talent Award honours Victor Adebodun in their Debut Director Award, which celebrates emerging director who has made their broadcast debut in 2018.

Victor was a friend of The Collective, a talented director, producer, and production company owner who sadly passed away last year. He was also part of Edinburgh festival talent scheme Ones to Watch in 2016.

The debut directors category is for directors who have received their first professional TV credit in 2018. Episodes must have been first transmitted in 2018 on broadcast TV or made available on a major streaming service or web broadcaster available in the UK. Entrants must be credited as the director.

Entries for the 2019 awards are open now. The New Voice Awards will be held at Rich Mix in London on Tuesday 26 February 2019. The Early Bird fee for entering any of the awards for individuals is £5 until Thursday 13 December. please email talentschemes@thetvfestival.com for more details.
