ITV is merging its comedy and drama departments as it hires Nana Hughes to head its scripted comedy output.

Reporting into head of drama Polly Hill, former Chewing Gum exec Hughes takes charge of a cross-channel slate which includes the second series of Hat Trick’s Kate & Koji and Avalon’s Britbox original Spitting Image.

Hughes was previously head of comedy for Talkback and a head of development at Retort, where she exec-produced Michaela Coel’s critically—acclaimed E4 comedy Chewing Gum.

Last year, she founded her own indie – Saturday’s Child – which was responsible for Channel 4 short-form comedy Blap Halfbreed.
