Livewire Pictures, part of the Hat Trick Group, is the production company responsible for televising the BBC Proms, the biggest and broadest music festival in the world. Each season it features many of the world’s greatest artists and orchestras over two months of concerts, with an eclectic programme ranging from its western classical core to to Jazz, Folk, Hip-hop, African, Asian and Latin American traditional music, Electronica, Broadway and beyond.

They are looking for the following roles for the BBC Proms 2022 Season. Some of the shows will be live, some will be pre-recorded and edited but all will feature a main presenter with guest interviews, VT packaged material and live music coverage.

This is a London-based production. They are particularly interested in receiving applications from those with a disability or other under-represented groups in our industry.

PRODUCER

The Proms TV producers are responsible for the editorial shape and content of the Proms broadcasts on BBC television and BBC iPlayer. They come up with ideas for items and guests, working with the series producer, assistant producers and researchers. They’re responsible for writing presenter scripts and supporting our presenters from draft through to delivery on air, and they have editorial oversight of the programme as it’s recorded or broadcast on air, sitting in the OB scanner. Producers are also responsible for VT content that goes into our programmes, and sometimes go out and direct/shoot themselves. This role requires experience at producer level, ideally in a live environment, great team working skills, good writing skills, an eye for detail, a passion for music is essential and classical music knowledge a distinct advantage. The producers report to the series producer.

ASSISTANT PRODUCER

The Proms TV assistant producers provide a vital role supporting the producers in shaping the editorial content of the Proms broadcasts on BBC television and BBC iPlayer. They work with the researchers coming up with ideas for items and guests, and are across booking and briefing guests as well as looking after them on filming days. A key responsibility will be managing VT content and setting up VT shoots, often going out to shoot/direct them and seeing them through the edit. The role requires experience at senior researcher or AP level (ideally in a live environment), great team working skills, and a passion for music. Classical music knowledge is a distinct advantage, as is experience in sourcing and clearing archive material, particularly from within the BBC archives. The assistant producers report to the producers and series producer.

RESEARCHER

The Proms TV researchers are the editorial engine room of our operation! They are the assistant producers and producers of tomorrow and play a key role in coming up with ideas for programmes, and supporting the rest of the team in ensuring that we have all the research materials required including research briefs, finding and booking guests and dealing with on-screen talent. Experience sourcing and clearing archive and particularly a good knowledge of BBC Archives would be hugely beneficial (and if not keenness and ability to learn quickly essential!). On the day of the Proms they

perform the crucial task of helping make sure everyone is in the right place at the right time, and that our presenters have all the facts they need at their fingertips. A passion for bringing music alive on television is vital for this role, and good classical music knowledge preferred. The researchers report to the assistant producers and producers.

PRODUCTION CO-ORDINATOR

We need someone who is comfortable being a key point of contact on a large production, and happy to manage the team of runners.

Duties will include supporting the PM with the preparation and distribution of key documents like schedules, crew lists, caption/credit lists and call-sheets. You will also co-ordinate travel and accommodation when required. You will be looking after small budgets such as production office set up costs, archive costs etc, and be able to spot additional costs and report them to the PM. Knowledge of how to clear Copyright on commercial music tracks and photographic archive would also be desirable. You may be required to book and negotiate rates with freelance crew therefore an understanding of Freelance contracting (HMRC IR35) regulations, would be a distinct advantage. The Production Coordinator will report to the Production Manager.

    PRODUCTION SECRETARY

    The production secretary will report to the Production Manager and support in setting up and maintaining key production systems. Supporting the PCs in the preparation and distribution of key production documents like schedules, crew lists and call-sheets and camera scores. To assist with co-ordinating travel, accommodation when required. Supporting with setting up the production office on location and creating a rota of daily runners and work experience candidates. Crucially they must be able to identify cost drivers and communicate these to the Production Manager.
