20 individuals to receive support for extended two-year term

Bushra Siddiq, Nelson Adeosun and Shantelle Rochester are among the 20 producers selected for the fourth Bafta Elevate initiative.

The cohort, who work across scripted and unscripted programming, identify as either disabled, from minority ethnic or low-socioeconomic backgrounds and will receive 24 months of support including networking opportunities, panel discussions, masterclasses and workshops focused on their professional development.

After layoffs at Netflix, questions mount over diversity efforts

As the company fights to maintain its leading position in the streaming world, some of the laid-off workers are questioning whether diversity efforts will become part of the collateral damage.

In a statement, Netflix disputed that it was retreating from its diversity and inclusion efforts. The company said it was ending a contract with an outside vendor in order to bring social media work in-house, and that audience-focused channels such as “Strong Black Lead” remain a priority. About half of Netflix’s workforce comes from an underrepresented ethnic group or race, it said.

E4 books Love hairstyling contest

E4 has ordered a reality competition format centred on hairstyles from Love Productions.

The Big Blow Out will be hosted by AJ Odudu and will follows eleven experienced hairstylists as they compete in a series of extravagant challenges that will test their creative flair.

They will undertake two time-based challenges per episode, with the first one meeting exacting styling demands in the first task before showcasing their individual taste and creativity in the Masterpiece challenge.

The 8 x 60-minute series will be exec produced by Kieran Smith and was commissioned for E4 by commissioning editor Vivienne Molokwu and head of youth and digital Karl Warner.

Bong Joon-Ho’s Sci-Fi Movie Starring Robert Pattinson In Pre-Production At UK’s Warner Bros Studios Leavesden

 

Bong Joon-Ho’s follow-up film to Oscar winner Parasite is currently in pre-production at Warner Bros Studios Leavesden.

Robert Pattinson, coming off The Batman, is set to star in the anticipated sci-fi film, which is due to begin shoot over the summer.

Jokes Only A…Can Tell distributed via Facebook and Instagram

Trix Worrell and Celia Taylor’s fledgling indie Distant Voices has landed its debut Channel 4 commission – a digital comedy shorts series featuring comedian poking fun at their own communities.

The 5 x 5-minute Jokes Only A…Can Tell launched this week via C4’s Facebook and Instagram profiles. It features up of up-and-coming talent and established comedians from Muslim, lesbian, Nigerian, disabled and Jewish communities telling stories and jokes about their personal and shared experiences.
