Kudos Knight hires Sex Education’s Rem Conway as development producer

Sex Education producer Rem Conway has been appointed development producer at Kudos Knight, the creative partnership between scripted label Kudos and Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight.

Based in Birmingham, Conway will spearhead plans to grow a world-renowned scripted production hub in the West Midlands region of the UK.

The new role will see him support the Kudos Knight management team in developing a drama slate. Conway will identify writers and emerging creative talent from the Birmingham area, with a focus on championing “under-represented and unheard voices.”

Conway began his career in theatre production before making the transition to film and TV. His credits include Sex Education (Netflix), My Name is Leon (BBC Two), Our House and Riches (both ITV).

Martin Haines, joint MD of Kudos, said: “Rem shares our drive to supercharge scripted production in Birmingham and with him on board, a new Digbeth base, a growing pipeline of productions and upcoming investment in local skills, there is real momentum behind the Kudos Knight partnership and the TV industry in Birmingham.”

Conway said: “I want to collaborate with trailblazing writers, discover the next generation of storytellers and work with partners that share our determination to succeed. We’re open for business and ready to go!”

In related news, Kudos Knight has announced a new initiative to work with the Birmingham Film Academy, a film and TV training facility.

Together they will provide practical training courses to serve the growing production sector in the region.

Knight said: “Our plan is to change the game in the West Midlands as regards creative industries and in particular TV and film.

“We will be a globally important content making hub, hosting the world’s best storytellers and producing world beating international productions.”

Banijay-owned Kudos has a first-look deal with Knight for UK projects, which will be made at his Digbeth Loc. Studios.

Production has started on Kudos Knight’s first project, six-part drama This Town for UK pubcaster the BBC, which tells the story of the two-tone music scene in the Midlands during the 1970s and 80s.

The partnership is also developing a series about the life of playwright William Shakespeare, based on a concept by Happy Valley actress Sarah Lancashire.
