Channel 4 bosses’ pay set to be cut by up to 40%

Alex Mahon and Ian Katz will still receive bonuses this year. 

Channel 4’s top trio will have their total remuneration cut by up to 40% but will still receive bonus payments despite the broadcaster’s challenges in 2023.  

This year’s annual report is set to show that the total remuneration for Alex Mahon, Ian Katz and Jonathan Allan will be down between 30-40% for 2023, in comparison with 2022’s figures and was first reported by Deadline.

The reduction comes as the broadcaster continues to navigate a tough ad market, which has so far led to the axing of 250 roles at the company in 2024.  

However, after what a C4 spokesperson described as a “careful and considered evaluation,” it has been decided by C4’s remuneration committee that eligible employees including Mahon, Katz and Allan will be able to receive reduced bonuses, paid at half of the maximum opportunity.  

In 2022, chief executive Mahon earned almost £1.5m in total remuneration, including a deferred loyalty bonus of £155,000.
