Derren Lawford has won backing from US production company Asylum to support the expansion of his indie company Dare. 

Derren Lawford has won backing from US production company Asylum Entertainment Group to support the expansion of his fledgling indie Dare Pictures.  

Former Woodcut Media exec Lawford set up his “new breed” indie in January 2022 with backing from angel investors Rosegown.  

As part of Asylum’s investment, Rosegown will exit the business and Michelle Morgan will remain the chair in the new board structure while becoming company director and minority shareholder of the business. Lawford will continue as chief executive. 

It is the latest in a string of UK indie investments by Steve Michaels’ Asylum, which is part of Endeavor’s nonscripted content group. These include the backing of Ian Lamarra’s London and Glasgow-based Soho Studios Entertainment and of Dawn Airey, Nigel Hall, and Russ Lindsay’s Moon&Back Media
