ScreenSkills sets up HETV unscripted group

72 Films, Twofour and The Garden among nine indies on board.

ScreenSkills’ HETV Skills Council has launched a working group focused on high-end TV unscripted productions.

The group will dedicate itself to specific training and development for freelancers in unscripted and will work in collaboration with the Unscripted TV Skills Fund.

It will include representatives from nine companies, including BBC Natural History Unit, Box to Box Films, The Garden, Twofour, Wild Space Productions and 72 Films. Hana Canter, chief operating officer of Wild Space, will chair the group.

The Unscripted Working Group was formed in response to the increase of unscripted productions that contribute to the HETV Fund because they benefit from UK tax relief.

Kaye Elliott, director of HETV at ScreenSkills, said that the new group will enable bespoke training specific to HETV unscripted to be commissioned in 2023/24.
